Three key design challenges

1
Balancing creativity and brand integrity

Constrained personalization: Allowed user customization while locking key brand assets (e.g., logo) to preserve Wedel's identity.

Content moderation: Implemented safeguards to block inappropriate user-generated designs.

2
Creating an engaging experience in 60 seconds

Joyful and intuitive interface - Designed a fun, intuitive interface optimized for rapid creation.

Instant satisfaction - Delivered a quick sense of achievement by letting users build a unique design in under a minute.

3
Intuitive and attractive for all generations

Universal usability - playful, intuitive interface accessible to all age groups.

Seamless experience - effortless, engaging experience regardless of the user's age.

Process & solutions

From workshops to launch

01

Understand

Stakeholder workshops and on-site museum research mapped what could be customized; a printing analysis set the boundaries.

02

Define

Insights became clear needs and goals, framed as "How might we" questions on brand safety, all ages, and a memorable souvenir.

03

Ideate

Explored themed collections, a guided flow, and AI-generated backgrounds for unlimited creativity.

04

Test & improve

Validated collections with an illustrator, chose a pre-generated AI library over live prompts, and simplified stickers for every age.

How we solved it

5 step design process

  • Seamless navigation - a simple, intuitive user flow for effortless interaction.
  • Optimized experience - creative freedom balanced with operational efficiency, no delays.

Wedel designer as the voice of the app

  • Interactive guide - a Wedel factory designer leads users through the process, so it feels collaborative.
  • AI-assisted personalization - users set preferences, the AI designer brings them to life.

Personal touch

  • Customization options - add text in a decorative frame and apply stickers for a unique souvenir.
  • Seamless sticker interaction - refined after testing for an intuitive, effortless feel.

Collections as a starting point

  • Streamlined creativity - no blank canvas; users pick from proposed backgrounds, keeping control.
  • Heritage-inspired designs - three curated collections drawn from Wedel's factory history.
  • AI-generated backgrounds - for those who want more, unique designs from their own preferences.

Safeguards against inappropriate content

  • Filtered text input - offensive language automatically blocked.
  • Controlled customization - decorative elements only in designated areas.

Controlled use of AI technology

  • Pre-generated AI library - a curated set instead of live generation, ensuring consistency and quality.
  • Refined AI prompting - after many iterations, the final prompt produced 6,000 on-brand visuals.

Souvenir from Chocolate Factory

  • Showcasing the creation - the final screen highlights the custom packaging, sent as a postcard via email.
  • Future expansion - printing and buying personalized Ptasie Mleczko® are planned next.

1

Choosing a packaging concept

Users start by selecting a preferred packaging theme - choosing from ready-made collections inspired by Wedel's factory history and heritage, or defining a favorite design style as a starting point.

Step 1 - Choosing a packaging concept
1

Choosing a packaging concept (continued)

After selecting a style, users define the key elements they want, and Wedel's AI-powered designer generates six tailored graphics from their choices - with a library of 6,000 illustrations to explore and find the perfect design.

Step 1b - Choose elements and colours
2

Selecting a packaging background

Users choose a background for their packaging, and the selected design instantly appears behind the brand's band and logo - giving real-time feedback on how the illustration fits.

Step 2 - Choose background
3

Personalizing with text and frame

Users personalize their packaging with text - picking a predefined message or writing their own words for a unique, personal touch.

Step 3 - Add text
4

Enhancing with stickers

Users add stickers they can resize, rotate, and arrange freely; some areas (e.g. the logo) are restricted to protect brand integrity, and clear visual feedback keeps it smooth and intuitive.

Step 4 - Add stickers
5

Sending a 3D design postcard to the email

The app generates a digital postcard with a 3D model of the packaging - a digital keepsake showcasing every detail, sent to the user's email as a lasting memento of the visit.

Step 5 - Receive by email

Curated collections.
Infinite AI variations.

Each design collection (Chocolate Factory, Ptasie Mleczko, Warsaw) comes with a handcrafted set of illustrations. AI styles extend this library infinitely - generating new backgrounds from visitor-selected motifs and palettes while maintaining visual consistency with the E.Wedel brand.

Instead of generating images in real time, we created a curated collection of AI-driven packaging backgrounds. After multiple iterations, the final AI prompt produced 6,000 visuals aligned with the client's layout and brand aesthetics.
